
Chennai, February 17 Canadian cricketer of Indian origin, Yuvraj Samra, became the youngest to score a century in the history of the T20 World Cup, smashing 110 off 65 balls against New Zealand in a Group D match here on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old, named after the Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh by his father, Baljit Samra, a cricket enthusiast, was playing his 19th T20 International, having made his debut last March.
Samra hit 11 fours and six sixes during his impressive innings, which formed the basis of his team's total of 173 against a stronger opponent.
He was dismissed in the final over while attempting another big hit against Jacob Duffy.
His innings is also the highest individual score for a player from a non-Test playing nation in the biennial tournament.
Previously, the record for the fastest century in the T20 World Cup was held by Pakistan's Ahmed Shehzad, who achieved this feat at the age of 22 in 2014.
