Chennai, February 17 Canadian cricketer of Indian origin, Yuvraj Samra, became the youngest to score a century in the history of the T20 World Cup when the 19-year-old smashed a career-best 110 off 65 balls against New Zealand in a Group D match here on Tuesday.

The young cricketer, named after the Indian star Yuvraj Singh by his father, Baljit Samra, a cricket enthusiast, was playing in his 19th T20 International since his debut last March.

Samra, born in Brampton, Canada, had the constant support of his father, Baljit, who was always his biggest encourager.

Samra hit 11 fours and six sixes during his impressive innings, which formed the basis of his team's 173-run total against a stronger opponent.

He was dismissed in the final over while attempting another big hit against Jacob Duffy.

His innings is also the highest individual score for a player from a non-Test playing team in the biennial tournament.

The record for the fastest century in the T20 World Cup was previously held by Pakistan's Ahmed Shehzad, who was 22 years old when he achieved this feat in 2014.
