New Delhi, February 21 Actress Jessica Capshaw paid tribute to her late "Grey's Anatomy" co-star, Eric Dane, in a lengthy post on social media, saying he had a fierce and deep love for his family, much like his character in the show.

Dane died from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, less than a year after announcing his diagnosis. He was 53. Capshaw is known for her roles in "Grey's Anatomy" and "Euphoria".

Capshaw shared a picture with Dane on her Instagram account on Saturday. "I am so saddened to hear of Eric Dane's passing. For five seasons, Arizona and Mark shared witty banter, honest truths, big laughs (and tears), and a great deal of their hearts with one another. Beneath that confident charm lived a unique tenderness and a fierce love for his family, a rare quality that only Eric could bring to the character," she wrote.

"Eric also had that same fierce and deep love for his family, and I am with them during this difficult time. May he rest in peace," she added.

In April 2025, Dane announced that he had been diagnosed with ALS, a progressive disease that affects nerve cells that control muscles throughout the body.

ALS gradually destroys the nerve cells and connections needed for walking, talking, and breathing. Most patients die within three to five years of diagnosis.

His last appearance was in "Borderline", which was released in March 2025.
