Chennai, March 17 Carborundum Universal Ltd has started commercial production of its cutting and grinding wheels at its facility in Hosur, the company said.
In 2023, Carborundum Universal Ltd, part of the diversified conglomerate Murugappa Group, acquired the manufacturing lines, technology, and brand of DRONCO GmbH, Germany.
With the production, the facility's capacity will double from 45 million to over 90 million wheels per year, a company statement said on Tuesday.
"The plant was established at an investment of Rs 83 crore, and at full capacity, is expected to generate a turnover of Rs 160 crore," it said.
Following the acquisition from DRONCO GmbH, the manufacturing lines have been relocated and commissioned at the Hosur facility. Some of the unique features of the plant include automated press lines, which are integrated with unmanned oven handling and curing systems, and an ambient control system that ensures stability in the raw material characteristics.
The products manufactured will serve a wide range of industrial applications, including fabrication, general engineering, and construction, the statement added.
