Chandigarh, February 25 – The Punjab Police announced on Wednesday that they had broken up a cross-border drug and weapons smuggling network with the arrest of one individual.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, recovered 2.102 kg of heroin, 7 pistols, including one Glock 9mm, four .30 bore pistols, and two 9mm pistols.

The SSOC also seized 10 live cartridges and impounded a motorcycle that was being used for smuggling.

The accused, identified as Gurnam Singh alias Gama, a resident of Bhange Wala (Jhuge Kishore Singh Wala) in Ferozepur, was apprehended.

Initial investigations revealed that the heroin and weapons, delivered by drone, were sourced from smugglers based in Pakistan to carry out criminal activities in the state.

Further investigations are underway to determine the supply chain, he said.

Sharing operational details, Assistant Inspector General, SSOC Fazilka, Naresh Kumar Dogra, said that based on a tip-off, teams from SSOC Fazilka launched a special operation in the Jalalabad area and arrested the accused near Baghe Ke Uttar village in Fazilka, while he was riding his motorcycle.

During the search, 2.1 kg of heroin and three pistols were recovered from his possession, he said.

The officer added that four pistols were recovered from the location pinpointed by the accused.

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act at the Fazilka SSOC police station.
