Pakistan and Afghanistan have announced a temporary ceasefire in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr. Following a request from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar, the Afghan government accused Islamabad of killing 400 people in an attack on a rehabilitation hospital in Kabul the day before. Pakistan's Information Minister, Ataullah Tarar, announced this in a social media post, hours after his country launched new attacks on alleged Taliban positions in the border region. In light of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, and upon its own initiative as well as the request from the Islamic countries of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey, Pakistan has decided to announce a temporary pause in ongoing Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq.
Hours later, Afghan government spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid stated that the security and defense forces of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, in observance of Eid al-Fitr and at the request of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar, have announced a temporary suspension of defensive operations. He also stated that Kabul will respond courageously to any aggression if threatened.
