
March 12, New Delhi — The Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), under the Ministry of Ayush, is organizing a Yoga Mahotsav-2026 on March 13, 2026, at Vigyan Bhawan to mark the beginning of the 100-day countdown to the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026. The event will begin at 9:00 A.M. and is expected to be attended by prominent dignitaries, yoga gurus, experts, and enthusiasts.
As part of the countdown, 100 organizations across 100 cities are promoting yoga to increase public participation and raise awareness in anticipation of the 12th International Day of Yoga.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush and Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, said, "At the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga in 2014. Yoga is an integral part of our cultural and spiritual heritage. Preparations for IDY-2026, including the Mass Yoga Demonstration led by the Prime Minister, are already underway."
The 100-day countdown is observed annually to expand outreach and encourage citizens to participate in yoga activities nationwide. For IDY-2026, the Ministry plans to celebrate yoga at 100 iconic locations across India, inspiring people to embrace yoga as a path to holistic well-being.
