New Delhi, April 11 Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to social reformer Jyotirao Phule on his birth anniversary and said his life was dedicated to the ideals of equality, justice, and education.

Modi also paid homage to Phule at his statue in the Parliament House complex and said his ideals will continue to inspire countless people.

The prime minister said Phule was a pioneer in advocating for the rights of women and the marginalized.

"On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, we pay tribute to a visionary social reformer who dedicated his life to the ideals of equality, justice, and education. He was also a pioneer in advocating for the rights of women and the marginalized," Modi said in a post on X.

He said that through Phule's efforts, education became a powerful tool for empowerment.

"This year, we mark the beginning of his 200th birth anniversary celebrations. May his ideas continue to guide everyone in the pursuit of societal progress," Modi said.

Phule was born on April 11, 1827, in Maharashtra and died on November 28, 1890.
