New Delhi, April 11 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tributes to the renowned social reformer, Jyotirao Phule, on his birth anniversary, stating that his life was dedicated to the ideals of equality, justice, and education.

He also highlighted Phule's pioneering role in advocating for the rights of women and marginalized communities.

Phule was born on April 11, 1827, in Maharashtra, and died on November 28, 1890.

"On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, we pay tribute to a visionary social reformer who dedicated his life to the ideals of equality, justice, and education. He was also a pioneer in advocating for the rights of women and marginalized communities," Modi said in a post on X.

"This year marks the beginning of the celebrations for his 200th birth anniversary. May his thoughts continue to guide everyone in the pursuit of societal progress," he added.

The Prime Minister stated that through Phule's efforts, education became a powerful tool for empowerment.
