In Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo inaugurated a summit on the upcoming 2027 Census exercise at Abhinav Theatre in Jammu today. An Akashvani Jammu correspondent reports that, speaking at the event, the Chief Secretary stated that the 2027 Census exercise is a significant national undertaking that will play a crucial role in future policy planning, governance, and welfare initiatives. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of the census process in Jammu and Kashmir. The summit featured participation from experts and representatives of various national and international organizations, including the Unique Identification Authority of India, the Election Commission of India, and the United Nations Population Fund. During the summit, it was announced that the first phase of census operations in the Union Territory, comprising house listing and housing census, will be conducted from June 1 to June 30 this year, preceded by a self-enumeration exercise from May 17 to May 31. The second phase, population enumeration, will be carried out in September this year in snow-bound areas, while in the remaining districts of J&K and the rest of the country, it is scheduled for February 2027. The summit served as a platform to discuss preparedness, coordination, and the broader impact of the census on development planning and governance.
