Imphal, March 26 House listing operations for the 2027 Census in Manipur will be conducted between September 1 and September 30, according to an official notification.
The notification stated, "The state government declares that the house listing operations for the 2027 Census of India will take place between September 1 and September 30, over a period of 30 days, with the option for self-enumeration, which will be conducted over a 15-day period between August 17 and August 31, just before the start of the house listing operations."
The notification was issued on March 22.
There is growing public demand in Manipur to postpone the census exercise due to concerns over the identification of illegal immigrants and the demand for the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) or a similar mechanism to identify illegal immigrants.
Earlier this month, at the state assembly, Congress legislature Party leader Keisham Meghachandra had called for the postponement of the census exercise in the state until normalcy is restored.
