March 24, Colombo – Vivekananda College, Sri Lanka’s oldest Hindu educational institution, celebrated its centenary on Tuesday with a sense of reverence and festivity, honoring a century of learning and cultural heritage closely linked to India’s spiritual legacy.

The occasion held special significance as it is said that Swami Vivekananda himself delivered his inspiring address at the very site where the school now stands.

Speaking at the event, High Commissioner of India Santosh Jha highlighted the enduring bond between education and cultural awakening that the institution represents. He added that the founders of the college drew inspiration from the historic visit of Indian saint and philosopher Swami Vivekananda to Sri Lanka, which has since grown into a tree of knowledge.
