New Delhi, March 25 Nearly 70,000 cases involving government employees are currently awaiting adjudication in the Central Administrative Tribunal, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) is the designated authority that handles grievances and disputes related to the terms and conditions of service for employees of central and state governments.
These pending grievances include cases concerning pay, promotions, career progression, pensions, and similar matters, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply.
"Since its inception in 1985, the CAT has received 9,88,738 cases for adjudication, out of which 9,19,157 cases have been resolved as of January 31, 2026, leaving 69,581 cases currently pending," Singh said.
The number of cases filed, disposed of, and pending over the years since the establishment of the tribunal can be found in the annual report of the Department of Personnel and Training, which can be accessed through the link https://dopt.gov.in/sites/default/files/AR2024-25English.pdf, Singh added.
To ensure the speedy resolution of all cases, the tribunal has implemented a cloud-based Advance Case Information System, which includes several new initiatives, such as mobile applications, SMS facility, online payment, hybrid video conference-based hearings, e-courts, scanning and digitization of all records, and e-filing of cases, the minister added.
