
Panaji, March 27 Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday welcomed the Central government's decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre each, stating that this timely intervention will ensure fuel stability and provide relief to citizens.
In a notification on Thursday, the government stated that the special additional excise duty on petrol has been reduced from Rs 13 per litre to Rs 3, and the same on diesel from Rs 10 per litre to nil. This move aims to protect domestic consumers from a surge in global oil prices caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The government has also reintroduced duties on the export of diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF).
On X, Sawant praised the Union government's decision to reduce the excise duty on petrol and diesel.
"This clearly reflects the government's commitment to protecting citizens and shielding the common man from the impact of rising global crude oil prices due to the conflict in West Asia," he wrote.
He said that this timely intervention will ensure fuel stability, support oil marketing companies, and provide major relief to the people of the country.
