Central Ridge Project Aims for Surveillance and Drainage Improvement.webp

New Delhi, April 7 The Delhi government's Irrigation and Flood Control Department plans to construct watch towers in the Central Ridge area near Vandematram Marg in New Delhi, officials said on Tuesday.

Along with this, the government plans a stormwater pipeline project in the ridge area for ₹2 crore.

The officials said the initiative is part of the Delhi government's broader efforts to enhance green cover and strengthen infrastructure in the ridge, which serves as a vital ecological buffer and one of the city's primary green lungs.

"The work is aimed at improving surveillance and managing water flow in the Central Ridge forest area. A tender has been floated in this regard," an official said.

According to the officials, the proposed work includes the construction of multiple watch towers to enhance surveillance in the area, which has faced concerns related to encroachment and environmental degradation in the past.

In addition, a comprehensive storm water management system will be developed to improve water flow and reduce waterlogging, particularly during the monsoon season.

The drainage component will involve excavation of channels, construction of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structures, brickwork and the installation of ductile iron pipelines.

Additional infrastructure such as sluice valves, manhole covers and signage boards will also be installed as part of the project, he added.

The contractor assigned to the project will be responsible for maintaining quality standards, conducting material testing and ensuring safety protocols during execution.
