Chakma Council Staff Strike Over Salary Delay.webp

Aizawl, Apr 1 Two associations representing employees and teachers of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) in Mizoram have called for an indefinite strike starting Thursday, over the delay in salary payments, an official said on Wednesday.

The Chakma District Council Employees' Association (CDCEA) and the Chakma District Council Teachers' Association (CDCTA) reached this decision during a meeting held on Tuesday, the CADC official said.

The meeting reviewed a petition submitted to the governor on March 16, which detailed the acute hardships faced by the staff, who have not been paid salaries for more than four months, he said.

Association leaders also expressed serious concern over the lack of response from the governor's office, describing the silence as "deeply troubling".

They said the salary crisis has severely impacted daily life, disrupting education, access to healthcare, and the overall socio-economic stability of the region.

The strike will be observed across all offices or departments, including schools governed by the CADC, to protest the non-release of salaries, the association leaders said.

Officials of the state district council and the minority affairs department, as well as the Lok Bhavan, could not be contacted on the matter.
