Chandrapur Activist Admitted After Protest Against Iron Ore Project.webp

Chandrapur, March 10 Activist Bandu Dhotre was forcibly taken to the hospital by police after his hunger strike against a proposed iron ore mine in the Tadoba tiger corridor in Chandrapur district, Maharashtra, entered its seventh day, although the protest continued on Tuesday.

Dhotre launched a hunger strike on March 5 against the permission granted to the proposed Lohardongri iron ore mine project in the Tadoba corridor, which connects the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve to the surrounding forests in Chandrapur.

The activist, who was protesting outside the district collector's office, was forcibly admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) by personnel from the Ramnagar police station on Monday night.

However, the protest continued on Tuesday as women from various social organizations gathered to participate in the agitation.

Dhotre had earlier alleged that when the tiger-human conflict in the district had reached its peak, the mine was granted permission in a very important corridor. He claimed that the government failed to implement the action plan and recommendations of a committee formed in 2021 to address the rising human-tiger conflict in the Chandrapur district.
