New Delhi, March 24 Two days after a pipeline burst disrupted operations at a water treatment facility here, halting water supply to several central Delhi localities, around 50 per cent of supply will resume in affected areas by Tuesday night, Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma said.
According to the statement, Singh visited the Chandrawal Water Works-II facility on Tuesday to review restoration work and assessed the progress of repairs.
The disruption occurred on March 22 after a 600-mm backwash pipeline burst near the facility, submerging the pump house located in a low-lying area and forcing a complete shutdown of operations.
Out of the nine motors at the facility, three have been made operational and will begin functioning by early morning, while the remaining are in the final stages of testing and are expected to be ready by Wednesday night.
"Work is progressing at a rapid pace. We are ensuring that relief reaches people as soon as possible—half the supply will be restored by tonight, and full supply by tomorrow night," Verma said.
Officials said the damaged pipeline has been repaired and extensive restoration of electro-mechanical systems is underway, including drying and servicing of motors, panels, transformers and other critical equipment affected due to flooding.
During the inspection, the minister directed officials to ensure that restoration is completed in a time-bound manner without compromising safety and quality.
Meanwhile, presenting the budget for 2026-27 on Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced an allocation of Rs 380 crore for the Externally Aided Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant project.
