Chennai Constituency Dispute: AIADMK Raises Concerns Over Election Integrity.webp

Chennai, April 1 AIADMK MP I S Inbadurai submitted a petition to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Wednesday, alleging irregularities in the Chepauk-Triplicane assembly constituency, from where Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin is contesting.

Inbadurai stated that 22 polling booths in the constituency, which were identified as "vulnerable" during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, have inexplicably been removed from that category for the upcoming polls. The party specifically highlighted booths in Division 116, covering the Ayodhya Kuppam and Mattankuppam areas.

Alleging that local DMK councillor R P M Kamaraj is a "history-sheeter", the AIADMK leader expressed fears of voter intimidation and booth capturing orchestrated to secure more votes for the Deputy Chief Minister.

He urged the CEO to reinstate these booths to the vulnerable list to ensure a free and fair election, calling for round-the-clock monitoring, central police forces, and flag marches.

The AIADMK leader also reiterated to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to transfer biased officials acting in favour of the ruling DMK government, drawing a parallel to the ECI's recent string of official transfers in West Bengal.

Shifting focus to the state's law and order situation, Inbadurai raised serious concerns over an alleged "mysterious death" at the C2 Subramaniapuram Police Station in Madurai. According to him, a man named Thandapani or Narayanan suffered 90 per cent burns after allegedly setting himself on fire inside the station.

The party claimed the victim was driven to self-immolation after police—allegedly pressured by a DMK functionary over a civil property dispute—refused to register his complaint, demanded a bribe, and threatened to file a false prostitution case involving his daughters.

Questioning how a petrol can was brought inside a police station and demanding answers regarding missing CCTV footage, the AIADMK leader noted the matter was mentioned before Justice Pugazhendhi at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday.

Addressing the broader political landscape, Inbadurai dismissed the narrative that the electoral battle in Tamil Nadu is between the ruling DMK and actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

Claiming that TVK "simply ran away from Karur", he asserted that the real ground contest is strictly "DMK versus AIADMK" and "Stalin versus Edappadi K Palaniswami".

Responding to Udhayanidhi Stalin's recent remark, labeling the AIADMK as a "slave of the BJP," Inbadurai hit back, calling the Deputy CM a "playboy" who doesn't know the real situation, and countered that his grandfather (former CM M Karunanidhi) was a "great slave of Indira Gandhi and also Vajpayee".

He also strongly rebuffed statements made by Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, who suggested a post-poll alliance where the NDA would form the government with TVK's help.

Reaffirming that the AIADMK leads the NDA alliance in Tamil Nadu and Palaniswami is the Chief Ministerial face -- a stance he emphasised has already been explicitly clarified by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and J P Nadda --- Inbadurai advised Athawale to "read the newspapers properly".
