Mumbai, March 18: Actor Rajpal Yadav, who has been convicted in a cheque bounce case by the Delhi High Court, has been given one last chance by the court.
On Wednesday, the court asked Yadav if he had taken the loan, to which he replied in the affirmative. The court then told Yadav that he had been given several chances, but he had failed to comply. While presenting his case in court, Yadav stated that in 2016, the judge had ordered him to pay a sum of Rs 10 crore 40 lakh. He also mentioned that he had brought papers for a friend's property worth Rs 28 crore. He further stated that he had repaid the money.
For those unfamiliar, Yadav was accused by Murli Projects Pvt Ltd of defaulting on repayment. Yadav also stated in court that the other party did not want the money, but they wanted him to be sent to jail. He argued that once he served his sentence, the entire matter should be resolved. He also informed the court that Rs 22 crore was spent on the film, not Rs 5 crore as claimed by the other party. He also stated that he incurred a loss of Rs 17 crore.
Yadav's lawyer stated that they had filed a regular bail application. The interim bail granted by the court expires on March 18. Murli Projects Pvt Ltd has already paid Rs 4.25 crore, and a demand draft of Rs 25 lakh is being issued today.
The court told Yadav that this is his last chance to return the money, and the case will be closed.
Rajpal Yadav faced legal trouble in a cheque bounce case under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. The court found him guilty of non-payment due to a financial dispute. Such cases arise when cheques are dishonoured due to insufficient funds, leading to criminal liability and penalties.
