Jammu, March 17: The 32nd annual Chhari Yatra began on Tuesday from the historic Ranveereshwar Temple on the occasion of Chaitra Chaturdashi, with devotees and sadhus participating in large numbers.

The religious procession started from Parade in Jammu and proceeded through key religious landmarks, including the Raghunath Temple and the Shri Laxmi Narayan Temple. At the Raghunath Temple, the ceremonial 'chhari' (holy sticks) were worshipped before the yatra continued.

The pilgrimage is headed towards Purmandal, also known as "Chhota Kashi," a prominent religious destination situated along the banks of the Devika River. The site is revered for its cluster of ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Mahant of Ranveereshwar Temple and trustee of the Laxmi Narayan Temple, Gambhir Dev Singh, along with several sadhus, accompanied the procession.

Speaking to Doordarshan Jammu, Singh said the Chhari Yatra was initiated in 1995 by Gulchen Singh Charak. He added that after passing through temples in Shastri Nagar and Trikuta Nagar, the yatra will reach Purmandal, where it will halt for three days before returning.

He noted that the annual pilgrimage not only holds religious significance but also contributes to boosting tourism and supporting the local economy in the region.
