Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh), April 6 Six people, including three members of a family, were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in Surguja district, Chhattisgarh, police said on Monday.
A couple and their 25-year-old son were killed, and their car driver was seriously injured after a truck collided with their vehicle near Sakalo forest, under the Gandhinagar police station limits, in the early hours of the day, an official said.
The deceased, Kailaram Toppo (52), his wife Manimati (50), and their son Rahul, were residents of Duppichoura village in neighbouring Balrampur district, he said.
The injured driver, Sonu Kerketta, was admitted to a nearby hospital, the official said.
According to preliminary information, the family was returning to their village from Ambikapur when a truck coming from the opposite direction crashed into their vehicle, he said.
In another accident, three women died, and one sustained injuries after a speeding SUV ran them over on National Highway-130 near Bhittikala village, under the Manipur police station limits, on Sunday evening, the official said.
The victims were returning home from the weekly market when the speeding vehicle lost control and mowed them down, before crashing into a trailer truck, he said.
The victims, Rambai (50), Munni Bai (40), and Shyampati (35), were residents of Jogibandh village.
Locals caught the driver, Sonu Rajwade, and allegedly assaulted him before police intervened, he said, adding that the man was later admitted to Lakhanpur Community Health Centre.
The accident triggered protests, as villagers kept the bodies on the highway, blocking traffic for nearly one and a half hours. The situation was brought under control after the police assured action in the case.
