Chhattisgarh Attack: NIA Files Chargesheet Against Additional Accused.webp

New Delhi, March 20 The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed chargesheets against six more accused, including three absconding individuals, in connection with an attack on a CRPF camp in Chhattisgarh by members of the banned CPI (Maoist) terror organization in 2024.

A dozen personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured in the attack on the Dharmavaram camp by Maoists armed with automatic weapons and locally manufactured Barrel Grenade Launchers (BGLs), the NIA said in a statement.

Besides the newly built Dharmavaram camp, the Maoist cadres also attacked two adjacent CRPF camps at Chintawagu and Pamed in Bijapur district on January 16, 2024.

The three accused who have been charged are Awalam Bhima, Madkam Nanda, and Madkam Deva alias Ratan, while the absconding accused include one member of the Special Zonal Committee (SZC) of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) organization, the investigating agency said, without providing details of the other accused.

With this supplementary chargesheet against these six accused, the total number of accused charged by the NIA in the case has risen to 23, it said.

The agency had earlier filed chargesheets against 17 Maoists in June last year.

The attacks on the three camps were aimed at killing security force personnel and looting weapons and other belongings of security forces from the camps, as part of a Maoist conspiracy to wage war against the democratically elected Government of India, the NIA said.

The Maoist cadres were found to be in possession of prohibited arms, ammunition, and locally manufactured BGL shells containing explosive materials, the NIA had found during its investigation.

Further investigations by the NIA revealed that the CPI (Maoist) terror outfit had set up a mock replica of the target camps for training and motivation of its armed cadres.

The cadres were also instructed to scout the target camps before carrying out the attacks, it said.

The NIA, which took over the case on February 9, 2024, has re-registered it against 21 accused persons and 250-300 unknown armed cadres of the CPI (Maoist).
