
Chhindwara, March 27 Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited Chhindwara on Friday and met the families of the victims of a road accident that killed 10 people, while also announcing an additional ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased.
A bus returning from a public function attended by the chief minister collided with a pick-up vehicle in Chhindwara district on Thursday evening. While ten people were killed, 31 others were injured, four of whom were in critical condition.
Yadav visited the bereaved families in their villages, offering condolences and assuring them of all necessary assistance. Later, he visited the district hospital and spoke to the injured.
He also ordered an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The families of the deceased would receive Rs 4 lakh each under the Sambal scheme, bringing the total financial assistance they would receive to Rs 8 lakh, he said, adding that financial aid would also be provided to the injured. The government would bear all the treatment expenses, the CM said.
Yadav also announced rewards for the local police personnel for their prompt response.
"This accident is a tragedy. The Madhya Pradesh government stands with the affected families in their difficult time," he said.
On Thursday, the CM had announced an assistance of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of those killed and Rs 1 lakh for those seriously injured, in a post on X.
Five of the deceased were from Karer village, where their last rites were performed on Friday.
