Chennai, March 13 Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has hailed the Supreme Court verdict clarifying the determination of the non-creamy layer among Other Backward Classes as a "decisive victory" for OBC justice after years of struggle.
He urged the Union Government to create additional seats for OBC candidates who cleared the Civil Services Examination but were denied their rightful place and rectify this injustice in the spirit of constitutional equality.
He welcomed the Supreme Court's recent verdict that income cannot be the sole criterion to determine the creamy layer among the Other Backward Classes, and said the NDA government defended a position that could have excluded many genuine OBC candidates and introduced the EWS quota, deviating from the constitutional basis of reservations.
"Even today, after three decades of Mandal, many OBC positions remain unfilled in premier institutions and within the Union government. The DMK has consistently fought for social justice, including securing 27 per cent OBC reservation in the all-India quota for medical seats. Our pursuit of #SocialJustice continues," the Chief Minister said in a post on the social media platform 'X' on Thursday.
