The Udhampur District Rescue Team successfully carried out an operation, rescuing a child from alleged forced labor at local shops and eateries during a surprise inspection.
The operation was led by officials, including the District Child Protection Officer. Following the rescue, the child was provided temporary shelter at the Palaash Child Care Institution and later produced before the Child Welfare Committee for further proceedings as per legal provisions.
The operation was conducted by a multi-departmental team comprising the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Childline 1098, the Labour Department, the Police, and medical staff, to ensure coordinated action.
Officials stated that establishments found employing children are being booked under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986. The District Administration has intensified surprise inspections across the district to curb child labor and ensure strict implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Speaking to the media, Hari Krishan, Coordinator of Child Helpline Udhampur, stated that such enforcement drives will continue in the future to protect children's rights and prevent exploitation.
