Choudhary's Power Draws Dhoni Comparisons.webp

New Delhi, April 10 – Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has praised Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) young batsman Mukul Choudhary, stating that his ability to finish innings and his powerful flicks helped the team win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by three wickets, similar to the batting style of legendary MS Dhoni.

At Eden Gardens, Choudhary scored an unbeaten 54 off 27 balls, with seven sixes and two fours, helping LSG win in the final over. “It’s incredible to see the determination to win. The young man’s power and batting skills are unbelievable.

“What a game of cricket, with so many ups and downs, and winning at the very end. Some of the shots reminded me of watching MS Dhoni back in the day, especially those flicks, with so much power,” said du Plessis on JioHotstar.

While LSG found a new hero in the inexperienced but talented Choudhary, du Plessis pointed out that three-time champions KKR are currently struggling to get "good luck" in their favour.

“You get small moments in the season where things can go your way, and you look back and think, ‘If that had gone our way, the season would have been very different.’ This is one such moment for LSG, winning the game and crossing the finish line against the odds, with a player who is inexperienced but has the potential to succeed. On the other hand, KKR will feel that they are not getting the luck they need.

KKR, who have yet to win a game in IPL 2026, find themselves in a precarious position. “They have had three losses and one game that was rained out, and those 50-50 moments are not falling in their favour. I think back to the first ball of the last over, when Avesh had a simple single available. Those are the kinds of things you need to be prepared for as a team if you want to win,” concluded du Plessis.
