
Imphal, March 25 Violent protests erupted in Churachandpur district of Manipur after two civilians were injured in a road accident involving a vehicle of security forces on Wednesday evening, officials said.
The accident occurred around 6:30 pm in the Tuibong area when a vehicle belonging to the security forces allegedly hit two individuals riding a motorcycle.
The injured individuals were rushed to the hospital, where they were discharged after receiving initial medical care, an official said.
Officials said eyewitnesses claimed that the vehicle of the security forces did not stop after the incident, enraging the locals who then staged violent protests.
The enraged locals also set fire to another vehicle belonging to the security forces, further escalating the situation.
Additional security forces arrived at the scene and fired tear gas shells to disperse the agitated crowd and bring the situation under control, officials added.
