Civic Meeting Focuses on Sanitation Improvements and Infrastructure Projects.webp

New Delhi, March 11 The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is scheduled to hold its monthly meeting on Friday to discuss issues ranging from waste collection and sanitation to encroachment checks and the reuse of treated water in parks.

Among the key items to be discussed is the integrated collection and transportation of municipal solid waste and street sweeping work in the West Zone.

The civic body is expected to review a revised budget allocation for extending the current contract, which is proposed to last until April 20, 2026, or until a new concessionaire formally takes over the work.

Additionally, encroachment management will be discussed. There is also a proposal to assign the responsibilities of licensing inspectors to sanitary inspectors in the respective wards.

This initiative aims to address the shortage of licensing inspectors and enhance enforcement against local encroachments. The proposal follows a resolution passed by the Shahdara (South) Ward Committee earlier this year.

Several infrastructure projects linked to the reuse of treated water in parks are also slated for consideration. Discussions will include seeking administrative approval and expenditure sanction for remodelling existing pump houses and constructing sewage treatment plants (STPs) in various locations in East Delhi, including Sunder Nagri, Shastri Park, IP Extension, and Laxmi Nagar. Treated water is planned to be supplied to nearby parks and green areas.

Civic officials say these projects aim to improve water management and reduce dependency on potable water for maintaining parks, while also addressing issues related to drainage and sludge management.

The session is expected to see discussions among councillors on sanitation, urban infrastructure, and administrative arrangements across city wards.
