CM Addresses Kokborok Script Dispute and Tribal Council Concerns

CM Addresses Kokborok Script Dispute and Tribal Council Concerns.webp

Agartala, March 15 Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Sunday that his government has been prioritizing the prosperity and development of the tribal community.

Addressing a BJP event at Rabindra Bhavan here, he said that five out of the 12 ministers in the state are from the tribal community, which is rare in Tripura's political history.

"Not only the ministers, but Ram Pada Jamatia from the tribal community is set to be the speaker of the assembly," he said.

He accused Tipra Motha Party supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma of creating confusion among tribals regarding the script for the Kokborok language.

"It was Pradyot Kishore who had agreed on maintaining the status quo regarding the script for the Kokborok language just before the commencement of the state school board examination last year. Accordingly, it was carried out, but now he has been insisting on the Roman script for the Kokborok language," the CM said.

Saha alleged that the Tipra Motha has become an institution of "falsehood and allure".

"We won nine out of the 13 constituencies that we contested in the 2021 tribal council elections. Later, one member of the council joined the BJP and quit it due to the allure (of the Tipra Motha)," he said.

The CM criticized the Tipra Motha-administered tribal council over alleged corruption.

"The council has witnessed corruption over the past five years. Some of its members even went on foreign trips, and if they win the assembly elections, they will go to the moon," he quipped.

Promising "real development" in the tribal council area, Saha urged the people to vote for the BJP in the upcoming elections.
