Amaravati, March 24 Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday directed senior police officials to investigate the alleged fire incidents in the Greenfield capital city of Amaravati, to determine whether they were genuine accidents or acts of arson.
His remarks come in the wake of a fire that broke out on Monday night in the Rayapudi village, involving pipes belonging to a construction company.
"Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to uncover the truth behind the fire in Amaravati," an official statement quoting Naidu said.
He issued directives to DGP Harish Kumar Gupta, Guntur SP Vakul Jindal, and Intelligence ADGP Mahesh Chandra Laddha.
Alleging that repeated fire accidents have been occurring in the Greenfield capital since the coalition government came to power, the CM noted that the "repeated" incidents and their nature raise suspicions about a possible intentional conspiracy.
On March 11, a fire accident occurred at a construction company's camp in Amaravati, damaging High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes.
Considering the major construction works in Amaravati and the need to store construction materials worth crores of rupees, Naidu said that such incidents would disrupt the Greenfield capital's construction workflow.
Amidst this backdrop, he called for intensified patrolling, surveillance, and the deployment of additional security guards at construction material storage centers.
Besides calling for surveillance through drones, Naidu also urged construction companies to step up security at their storage yards, including keeping an eye on strangers.
