The Government of Jammu & Kashmir signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the United Nations Development Programme to enhance disaster resilience and preparedness across the Union Territory.
The agreement was signed by UNDP India's Deputy Resident Representative Isabelle Tschan and Principal Secretary, DMRRR Chandraker Bharti, in the presence of Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo.
The collaboration aims to support the J&K State Disaster Management Authority in improving disaster preparedness and risk reduction through multi-hazard risk assessments, strengthening disaster management plans at the UT, district, and departmental levels, and capacity building across sectors.
Key focus areas include landslide and seismic risk mitigation, school safety initiatives, and the development of proposals to mobilize disaster risk reduction financing.
The initiative is part of UNDP's National Resilience Programme, which is being implemented under the guidance of the National Disaster Management Authority, with the aim of strengthening institutions through data-driven and forward-looking disaster management systems.
Officials from both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building resilient communities and enhancing institutional capacity to effectively address evolving disaster risks in Jammu and Kashmir.
