In Jammu, Commissioner Devansh Yadav of the Jammu Municipal Corporation conducted a thorough inspection of Ward Nos 49 and 74, covering Narwal, Bathindi, Sunjwan, Chowadi, and surrounding areas, to assess sanitation standards and address illegal encroachments.
During the visit, the Commissioner evaluated the cleanliness of main roads, inner lanes, drainage systems, and public spaces. He also reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects and examined the maintenance of civic amenities in the inspected areas.
Emphasizing hygiene and preventive measures, Dr. Yadav directed officials to ensure regular garbage collection, strict waste segregation at the source, and timely desilting of drains to prevent waterlogging. He stressed the urgent need to clean deep drains and canals, particularly those prone to heavy flow during the monsoon season, and instructed that preventive measures be taken well in advance.
As part of an enforcement drive, illegal encroachments on roads and sidewalks were removed, and unauthorized roadside stalls were cleared to restore public spaces. Encroachments on government land in the Sunjwan area were dismantled on the spot. The Commissioner directed enforcement teams to maintain strict vigilance and take action against repeat offenders.
Addressing the officers, Dr. Yadav emphasized the need for improved inter-departmental coordination and consistent implementation of sanitation measures, stating that cleanliness drives should be treated as a continuous civic responsibility.
He also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the Corporation by adopting responsible waste disposal practices. Those accompanying him included Joint Commissioner (Health and Sanitation) Abdul Sattar, Deputy Commissioner (South) Chand Singh, Health Officer Dr. Vinod Sharma, Executive Engineer Yasir Bashir Kichloo, and Chief Transport Officer Balkar Angurana.
