
The Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department conducted a field visit in the Nowshera Forest Division, led by V. S. Senthil Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests, Jammu. He was accompanied by Sat Paul, Conservator of Forests, West Circle, Rajouri.
The visit was organized as part of the Khair Awareness and Assessment Programme, aimed at formulating the next ten-year Khair Management Plan for the proposed felling cycle from 2027-28 to 2036-37.
In the Nowshera Forest Division, the Chief Conservator visited the Sunderbani Range along with the Divisional Forest Officer, Nowshera, Shweta Deonia, and other field staff. An interactive session was held with farmers from 35 villages, former PRI members, and other stakeholders regarding the upcoming management plan.
Officials stated that farmers will play a central role in assessing Khair trees on their private landholdings. The data they provide will form the basis for preparing the Khair Management Plan to be implemented from 2027-28 to 2036-37.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sunderbani, Ramkesh Sharma, along with revenue officers and officials, were also present. Khair Assessment Forms were distributed among farmers to ensure systematic data collection and participatory planning.
On the occasion, Dr. V. S. Senthil planted a sapling at Nagar Van Charnote, symbolizing the department's commitment to environmental conservation and promoting indigenous species. He emphasized scientific assessment, transparency in management practices, and active community participation to ensure sustainable management of Khair resources and long-term ecological balance.
The programme concluded with instructions to field staff for timely completion of the assessment process and effective coordination with local stakeholders.
