
March 10, New Delhi – The Consulate General of India in Toronto organized a community event to commemorate International Women’s Month, celebrating women's achievements and highlighting support services for those facing challenging situations.
The event was held in partnership with the Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women and brought together community leaders, civic partners, representatives from law enforcement, and organizations working in social services.
Addressing the gathering, Acting Consul General Kapidhwaja Pratap Singh highlighted the Consulate's continued engagement with the Indian diaspora and emphasized the importance of accessible support systems for women.
He also introduced the Consulate's One Stop Centre, a 24-hour initiative designed to assist women in distress. The centre provides counseling services, legal guidance, financial assistance, medical support, and access to safe shelter.
Speakers from community organizations and professional sectors shared insights on women's safety, empowerment, and well-being, stressing the need for stronger collaboration between institutions and grassroots community networks.
The event saw strong participation from members of the Indian diaspora and reflected a growing commitment within the community to promote gender equality and strengthen support systems for women.
