Ludhiana, March 1 Maulana Mohammad Usman Rahmani Ludhianvi, the Shahi Imam of Punjab, led a protest here on Sunday over the alleged killing of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, by a joint strike by the US and Israel.
He also demanded that the Indian government observe a week-long national mourning in his honor.
A large number of Muslims, including women, gathered outside the historic Field Ganj Masjid to participate in the protest.
The protesters burned an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, condemning the act and expressing solidarity with the Iranian people.
Rahmani urged Muslims worldwide to unite against such challenges, calling Khamenei a great martyr and condemning his killing in the strongest terms.
The protest remained peaceful, with the community coming together to express their outrage and grief.
