New Delhi, April 7 A Delhi BJP delegation, led by Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, submitted a complaint to the police commissioner against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge over his remarks against the party and the RSS.
During an election rally in Assam's Sribhumi district on Monday, Kharge cited the Quran and stated that if a poisonous snake is passing in front of someone who is offering prayers, that person should leave the prayers and kill the snake.
"I would say that interrupting prayers does not matter. The RSS and the BJP are that poisonous snake. If you don't kill this snake, you will not survive," he said.
The Congress President's statement is not only an attempt to spread "hatred and violence" among the Muslim community against the BJP but also a blatant violation of election campaign rules, according to a Delhi BJP statement.
The delegation also included BJP MPs from Delhi, including Manoj Tiwari, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, and Kamaljeet Sehrawat, as well as state media department head Praveen Shankar Kapoor.
The BJP complaint stated that Kharge not only compared the BJP to a venomous snake but also attempted to incite the religious sentiments of a particular community. It also stated that Kharge's remarks were a clear violation of election campaign rules.
Given that the Congress headquarters is located in Delhi, the BJP delegation urged the Delhi police commissioner to take cognizance of the speech, register an FIR, and initiate appropriate legal action.
Polling for the 126-member Assam Assembly will be held on April 9. Votes will be counted on May 4.
