Chandigarh, March 10 Shortly after the State Women's Commission summoned Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira over his alleged objectionable comments on women, the Punjab Congress MLAs wrote to the panel on Tuesday evening, condemning Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his alleged remarks against women on the occasion of International Women's Day.
In their written complaint, the Congress MLAs alleged that the chief minister's remarks at the event had undermined the dignity of women.
They said the event was organized in Punjab on International Women's Day, when government and non-government organizations across the country held seminars, workshops, and felicitation ceremonies to honor women.
The chief minister attended the program and addressed students, including women, they said.
The complainants alleged that while speaking about his college days, Mann shared anecdotes from his student life and also spoke about a girl and her dress, which they deemed condemnable.
They urged the Punjab State Women's Commission to take strict notice of the matter and register a case against the chief minister for allegedly insulting women.
Earlier, the Punjab Assembly passed a resolution condemning Congress MLA Khaira over his derogatory comments on women in connection with the Rs 1,000 monthly financial assistance announced by the AAP government in the state budget.
The House saw uproar over Khaira's remarks on social media, with treasury benches, including women MLAs, demanding an apology from the Bholath MLA.
The Punjab State Women's Commission took notice of Khaira's remark and asked him to appear on March 12 at its office.
