March 12, New Delhi – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the United States had already won the war with Iran, but indicated that the fighting would continue for now.
The U.S. President stated that the U.S. had disabled 58 Iranian naval ships and 28 mine-laying vessels, crediting the military with significantly weakening Iran’s forces. He dismissed the idea of quickly ending the conflict and added that the International Energy Agency’s decision to release oil from strategic reserves would substantially reduce oil prices.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian outlined Tehran’s conditions for ending the conflict, including compensation for the US-Israeli assault and “firm” international guarantees that Iran would not be attacked again.
Despite repeated U.S. threats, Iran has largely kept the Strait of Hormuz closed to commercial shipping, disrupting oil flow from the region. Israel’s military indicated that the campaign is far from over, stating that it still maintains “a broad range of targets.”
As the conflict enters its 13th day, sirens sounded across Jerusalem early Thursday, followed by explosions as the U.S. and Israel conducted airstrikes against Iran in West Asia.
Iranian strikes on Israel have so far killed 12 people. Tehran has also targeted U.S. military bases and diplomatic missions in Arab Gulf states, as well as hotels, airports, and oil infrastructure.
According to Iran’s U.N. ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, more than 1,300 Iranian civilians have been killed since the U.S. and Israeli airstrikes began on February 28.
