New Delhi, March 5 West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose's abrupt resignation on Thursday, weeks before the state elections, led the Congress to wonder "what was happening" and to say that Jagdeep Dhankhar was "summarily dismissed" as vice president last year, and his successor in the Lok Bhavan in Kolkata has received "similar treatment".
The opposition party also said that now that R N Ravi has been "transferred" to West Bengal, "he is guaranteed to create problems" there.
Bose's resignation sent ripples across the political scene of West Bengal, adding a new layer of political intrigue to the already charged pre-election atmosphere of the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed shock over the development and hinted at possible political pressure behind the move.
Shortly after Bose resigned in New Delhi, Banerjee said she had been informed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah that Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi would be given an additional charge of West Bengal.
In a post on X, Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said, "First, Jagdeep Dhankhar was summarily dismissed as the Vice President of India on July 21, 2025. His successor in the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata, C V Ananda Bose, has received similar treatment today. What's happening?"
In another post, he said, "R N Ravi is very much a part of the Modi ecosystem. But he had to be moved out of Nagaland because of the way he functioned."
"He moved to Tamil Nadu, where he has been a perfect nuisance. Now he is being transferred to West Bengal, where he is guaranteed to create problems!" Ramesh said.
