Jammu, March 16 The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Monday appealed to the Lieutenant Governor administration to consider releasing all those who were detained in the valley following protests over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra advocated for the release of the detained youth in view of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, as a gesture of goodwill so that families could celebrate the festival together.

“We request Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and direct the release of all those youth who participated in protests in different parts of the valley over the assassination of Khamenei by the US-Israel. They were detained by the police as a preventive measure,” Karra said in a statement here.

He said the protests were a reflection of anger over the killing of Iran's supreme leader, and that the youth were not involved in any illegal activities and were actively involved in mainstream political and social activism.

“In light of this background and the forthcoming holy festival of Eid, it is desired that all such people should be released immediately,” he said.

Karra also appealed to the people of Kashmir to maintain calm over the issue.
