Congress Candidates Announced Ahead of Election.webp

Thiruvananthapuram, March 20 Congress leader A K Antony said on Friday that the party had announced its complete list of candidates within three days of the announcement of the Assembly elections, but this was not the case for the LDF and NDA.

"Everything was finalized within three days (of the poll date announcement). However, even now, the NDA and LDF have not announced names for some seats," he said in response to reporters' queries about the delay in announcing Congress candidates.

When reporters pointed out the "internal squabbles" within the grand old party regarding the selection of candidates, the Congress leader said that this was nothing compared to what had happened in the past, especially in the 2001 Assembly elections, when three party members selected to contest from some seats withdrew at the last moment.

There were reports of Congress MPs K Sudhakaran and Adoor Prakash being dissatisfied with not being given seats, but both leaders later said that they were accepting the party's decision.

There are also reports of dissatisfaction among some members of the grand old party for not being considered as candidates, with two of them joining the BJP.

B S Anoop, who was the Congress candidate from Chirayinkeezhu in the 2021 Assembly polls, and KPCC working committee member R S Arun Raj joined the BJP on Friday.
