Chennai, April 8 The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) launched a strong attack on actor Vijay, the founder of TVK, on Wednesday, condemning his recent remark, "the real Congress is with us," as "baseless, false, and politically motivated."
In a strongly worded statement, TNCC Organisation Secretary Se Rammohan demanded an unconditional apology from the actor for allegedly insulting the party's integrity.
The controversy erupted following Vijay's high-octane election campaign in Tirunelveli, where the actor-turned-politician claimed that the "real Congress" is aligned with his party, TVK, even if the ruling DMK had "purchased" the state unit of the Congress with "crores of rupees."
Vijay had also described the DMK-led bloc as a "cash-box alliance," where partners lack genuine cohesion.
Responding to these allegations, Rammohan stated that the Congress is a "democratic movement with a century-old heritage and a history of sacrifice for India's independence."
He asserted that the party cannot be controlled by "money or power" and has been a steadfast partner in the secular alliance for over 20 years.
"Vijay's attempt to claim that the 'real Congress' is with TVK is a blatant lie. Only a handful of individuals seeking personal gain have moved toward him," the statement read.
The Congress warned the TVK leader to immediately stop making "libelous" comments against their cadre and leadership, reaffirming their commitment to the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance.
The Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 23.
