
Puducherry, March 26 Former president of the Puducherry unit of the Congress, A V Subramanian, submitted his resignation to the party on Friday.
In a letter to the president of the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee, V Vaithilingam, he stated that he was quitting the party due to "personal reasons" and "unavoidable circumstances".
This comes after Subramanian was denied a ticket to contest the upcoming assembly elections. He was fielded by the party from the Karaikal North constituency in the 2021 elections, but he lost.
Subramanian, who hails from Karaikal, has also served as the speaker and deputy speaker of the Puducherry Assembly, as well as a former minister in the Congress government. He won the 2001 election in the Karaikal North assembly seat.
The Congress has fielded A M Ranjith as its nominee in the Karaikal North constituency in the upcoming polls.
The assembly elections for the Union territory will be held on April 9.
