
New Delhi, March 13 As preparations for the Tamil Nadu elections get underway, the Congress on Friday established election-related committees, including a Pradesh Election Committee chaired by K Selvaperunthagai.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the proposal for the formation of state-level committees for the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, according to a party statement.
The Congress has formed a 37-member Pradesh Election Committee, chaired by Selvaperunthagai and co-chaired by S Rajeshkumar, with members including P Chidambaram, Manickam Tagore, A Chellakumar, Sasikanth Senthil, and Vijay Vasanth.
In addition to the 37 members, heads of frontal organizations and AICC in-charges and secretaries will also be part of the committee.
The Campaign Committee, headed by A Chellakumar with S Jothimani as the co-chairman, will have 51 members and additional permanent invitees.
The Election Manifesto Committee will be headed by Karti Chidambaram with Raj Kumar as the co-chairman, and will also include S Jothimani, Vijay Vasanth, and Sasikanth Senthil as members.
The committee has 26 members, with additional permanent invitees.
The Election Management and Coordination Committee will be headed by Manickam Tagore with C D Meiyappan, P Chidambaram, A Chellakumar, and K V Thankabalu as members.
The party has also established a 73-member Publicity and Media Management Committee, with Vijay Vasanth as the chairman and Anand Sreenivasan as the co-chairman.
The Congress is contesting the elections in alliance with the ruling DMK.
The DMK has allocated 28 seats to its main ally, the Congress, four to the Vaiko-led MDMK, and two seats each to the Indian Union Muslim League and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi.
Tamil Nadu is likely to go to the polls in April.
