Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said that preparations for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for an all-weather tunnel at Razdan Pass in Bandipora are set to begin shortly.
Feb 19, Srinagar: Surinder Choudhary on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that preparations for the DPR for an eight-kilometer-long tunnel at Razdan Pass in the Bandipora district are likely to commence shortly.
He was responding to a question raised by legislator Nazir Ahmad Khan in the House.
The deputy chief minister said that the proposed tunnel at Razdan Pass would provide all-weather connectivity to the strategically important border constituency of Gurez.
He added that the construction of the tunnel has been endorsed by the Ministry of Defence to ensure year-round access, and the preparation of the DPR is expected to begin soon.
Choudhary said that regular snow clearance is being carried out by BEACON to maintain connectivity to the Gurez sector. However, he noted that the road remains closed for nearly a month or partially closed during winter due to snowfall, snow accumulation, and directions from the civil administration to ensure the safety of commuters.
