Constable Recruitment Update: Districts See Uneven Distribution of Spots.webp

March 9, Kohima: A total of 80 positions remain vacant after the physical fitness test in the ongoing police constable recruitment drive for 1176 vacancies.

This was announced by Deputy Chief Minister (Home), Yanthungo Patton today in his response to a question during the ongoing Assembly session.

Out of the total, 43 are from Mokokchung, 32 from Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland, three from Tseminyu, and one each from Longleng and Wokha.

Responding to a supplementary question on whether there will be a separate special recruitment trial for these positions or whether they will be added as backlog positions in upcoming recruitment, Mr. Patton said that the unfilled positions will be retained for the specific tribe and district and added to the normal allocation of positions in each district during the next recruitment.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio suggested giving a one-time second chance to the candidates for the 80 unfilled positions, but cautioned that the opportunity should "not be extended beyond that."

He also raised concerns over overqualified candidates applying for lower-grade positions, particularly Grade-IV positions. He said that such candidates may not provide dedicated service and may send proxy workers while pursuing other employment opportunities.

This would deprive less-qualified candidates of opportunities, Mr. Rio said, and urged the department to review the issue.
