New Delhi, March 18 The government has taken various measures to protect the interests of consumers, including action against coaching centers for misleading advertisements, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Wednesday.

Responding to supplementary questions during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said that many notices had been issued to coaching centers. In addition, penalties have been imposed for misleading advertisements.

The issue of misleading advertisements by coaching centers has decreased relatively, Joshi said, adding that many measures have been taken to protect consumer rights.

Tributes were paid to former member Kavuru Sambasiva Rao, who passed away last week, as soon as the House met for the day. The members stood in silence for a brief period as a mark of respect.

Shortly after the obituary reference, an anguished Birla told the members that it was not appropriate to engage in conversations while the House was paying tributes to those who had passed away.
