Shimla, April 2 Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Thursday that contractors who fail to complete the works assigned to them within the stipulated time will face strict action.
Speaking in the assembly, he said that the government would consider cancelling the tenders of projects that have not yet started despite a considerable amount of time having passed since their allocation.
Responding to a question posed by Congress MLA Kamlesh Thakur, the chief minister said that in the future, only one or two works would be assigned to a single contractor.
He added that contractors from other states are not familiar with the terrain of Himachal Pradesh, which is the reason for the delays.
Meanwhile, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said that the government would investigate the delays in the construction of roads in Dehra and Jwalamukhi, and a committee headed by the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, the Chief Engineer in Kangra, and other relevant officers would be set up for this purpose.
Singh informed the assembly that the firm concerned had already been fined Rs 3.22 crore for the delay.
