
Dhar, March 13 A group posing as Income Tax officials entered the home of a contractor in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh on Friday, claiming to be investigating the issue of undeclared wealth, and stole approximately 50 tolas of gold and several lakh rupees in cash, police said.
The incident occurred at 9:30 am in the Brahman Mohalla area of Bag, about 100 km from the district headquarters, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mayank Awasthi told reporters.
According to police, the group of seven to eight people arrived in a white SUV without a license plate and entered the house of Rajkumar Malviya, a contractor for the Madhya Pradesh Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited, claiming they had received a complaint about undeclared wealth.
Two members of the group were wearing khaki uniforms. They forced open cupboards and made off with approximately 50 tolas of gold jewelry, several lakh rupees in cash, and mobile phones. A "tola" is approximately 11.6 grams.
"Teams have been formed to apprehend the accused. The Crime Branch is also conducting an investigation. The exact amount of gold and cash stolen will be known once the family assesses the losses," the SP said.
